10 PSYCHOLOGICAL RECOMMENDATIONS TO BE MORE CREATIVE
- Be brave and do what you love. Many people inhibit their creativity because they are ashamed or embarrassed that others might laugh at them or criticize them. You need to get over these worries. A creative person will be appreciated, eventually. Creative production also develops confidence in one’s own strengths.
- Think “out of the box”. This thinking helps the subject to find original solutions in a shorter time, even to some problems that seem unsolvable. To this way of thinking can be added the one described by the phrase “think big”. Many people don’t have this courage and…miss out on chances and opportunities.
- Use psychological techniques and processes to develop creativity. These are sometimes useful to stimulate the creative process.
- Intensify emotions. Psychological research has shown that people who are emotionally involved in their work or who have experienced certain emotions (love, anger, rebellion, etc.) intensely were more creative than other people. Emotion can help the subject focus better on the source of inspiration.
- Don’t give up if you fail. Creation requires dedication, patience, knowledge, endurance, self-sacrifice, intuition and a lot of knowledge. Most of the time, a truly valuable work comes out after several attempts. Allow yourself to fail, so that you can restart the creative process as often as necessary.
- Ask yourself frequently the questions “Why…?” and “What if…?”. By their very nature, these questions develop the creative process. They can refer to any object or phenomenon. In fact, a person who wants to be creative asks all kinds of questions, much more frequently. That is to say, they are by nature curious.
- Don’t hesitate to express your ideas. Ideas can be expressed in many forms – for example: poetry, dance, song, painting, sculpture, technical projects, abstract philosophical ideas, jokes, technical creations, etc. Don’t give in to criticism. Seek to overcome them and move to a higher, more refined level of your creation.
- Be a good observer of your environment. Nature is statistically the most fabulous source of inspiration. So use this inexhaustible opportunity: the natural environment.
- Learn to take risks. Every creation involves risk, whether technical, philosophical or artistic. Risk is part of the creative act. Psychology teaches us how to manage risk in general and creative risk in particular.
- Don’t hesitate to daydream. Use every opportunity that benefits your creativity. Some people were creative in the middle of the night, others in the morning; others got ideas from daydreaming, etc. Some people were creative in the presence of others, others when they were alone. When are you most creative?
