Diplomacy

Appearing at about the same time as human society, diplomacy has allowed man to establish alliance or belligerent relations with other societies, to develop common projects, to solve problems that would otherwise have required the mutual destruction of those societies and more.

In a broad sense, “diplomacy” is defined as ”the art or science of maintaining peaceful relations between different human entities”.

Although, most of the time, diplomacy refers only to a very small and specialized number of people, who represent the interests of many, in a way that is less transparent and understandable to most, nowadays, diplomacy is beginning to present itself  public, increasingly visible ways of action, understandable to all.

If, in the past, diplomacy aimed to establish military treaties meant to discourage the enemy from attacking a certain country, nowadays, diplomacy has been very refined and has come out of the chancelleries of the great empires, on the street, among ordinary people. When we say this we think of new forms of diplomacy, which are born right before our eyes.

Here are some of these forms of diplomacy, adapted to the times we live in: COVID 19 vaccine diplomacy, energy diplomacy, environmental diplomacy, refugee and emigrant diplomacy, economic diplomacy, trade diplomacy, dollar diplomacy, hydrocarbon diplomacy, cultural diplomacy, mass-media diplomacy etc. Each of these forms of diplomacy, complementary to the classical ones, make their mark on our lives and, without realizing it, we appreciate that we love or hate more a certain country, a certain ethnic group, a certain people, even if we never met a person belonging to that entity…

But beyond diplomacy are diplomats – people trained to the highest standards, loyal to their country, whose main mission is to impose their national interests, in front of others, in the name of ensuring the well-being of the country they belong to.

In order to successfully fulfill their mission, these people must be understood, prepared and helped, where appropriate. Psychology and political science can provide enough means of intervention for the benefit of diplomats and diplomacy.

DSD RO aims to cooperate with other organizations for a deep understanding of diplomacy and diplomats, for the prevention of human crises and suffering.
